About

My Background

Born and raised in eastern Iowa, Richard Hahn worked as a farmer with an MBA until 2003, when he decided to move to the Colorado Rocky Mountains to become a professional photographer. He and his wife Helen moved to Grand Lake and then to Estes Park, where Richard has pursued his photography and Helen manages their gallery Alpenglow. Alpenglow Images & Accents in Estes Park

Even in his hog-raising and corn-growing days as an Iowa farmer, Richard loved summer vacations in Rocky Mountain National Park, where he and his family hiked in the mountains and he developed his knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Now that he lives full-time on the edge of what is left of America's wilderness, Richard takes great joy in capturing images of what he sees and experiences.  He abides by the words of the great photographer Ansel Adams, who said, "It is my intention to present -- through the medium of photography -- intuitive observations of the natural world which may have meaning to the spectators."

Visitors to RMNP early in the morning are likely to witness Richard in action, either laden with camera equipment on the edge of a meadow or leading a bird walk as a park volunteer.

Richard's photography is a gift: a shared glimpse of the wonder he finds each day in this beautiful place.

Photography as Communication

I am surrounded both by natural beauty and interesting people. I use my camera to document the world and then print images with a focus on the magic I find in daily life. My pictures tell my stories.
